One of the permanent residents of Keshikchidagh caves complex is solpugi. The solpugi belongs to the group of large spiders, mainly 50-70 mm, sometimes 10-15 mm. They are brownish-yellow, yellowish, rarely ornate or dark in color. The word “Solpugi” means “fleeing from the sun” in Latin.
Solpugis run at great speed, easily climb vertical surfaces, and can even jump up to 1 m.
Those who “fleeing from the sun” are more active at night. During the day, they hide in different places – under rocks, in the nests of rodents and other animals. However, there are also sun-loving species of solpugis. “Fleeing from the sun” are mainly insects, partly amphibians, spiders, and so on. are fed with. They don’t pose any danger to humans because they don’t have venom glands.
