Within the framework of the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF 13), which is being held in our country on May 17–22, 2026, and carries great international significance, important measures are being implemented towards presenting Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural heritage, as well as its sustainable development and cultural tourism potential, to the international audience. Within the framework of the forum, where issues of urban planning, cultural heritage conservation, sustainable development, and humanitarian cooperation are discussed, the visits of foreign delegations visiting our country to historical sites are of particular importance.
As part of the WUF 13 program, a group of visitors from the Russian Federation visited the territory of the “Keshikchidagh” State Historical and Cultural Reserve, which is managed by the State Service of Cultural Heritage Conservation, Development and Restoration under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the excursion, the guests were provided with detailed information regarding the rich historical, archaeological, and spiritual heritage of the reserve, and material cultural artifacts reflecting the ancient residential and worship traditions of the region were demonstrated.
During the visit, the participants became closely acquainted with the “Peak named after Ilham Aliyev”, the caves situated in this direction, the ancient frescoes preserved on their walls and ceilings, water wells, food storehouses, and other historical objects. These monuments, which aroused particular interest among the guests, once again demonstrated that Keshikchidagh is one of the important ancient cultural heritage sites not only of regional significance but of the Caucasus as a whole.
The organization of such excursions within the framework of the international WUF 13 forum is of great importance in terms of promoting Azerbaijan’s rich cultural heritage on a global scale, demonstrating the mutual relations between history and urban planning, as well as encouraging the development of cultural tourism.
