On August 4–8, 2026, scientific and practical field training on the application of LiDAR technology at the Yovshanlidara kurgans located in the “Keshikchidagh” State Historical and Cultural Reserve continues under the leadership of specialists from Ege University, Manisa Celal Bayar University, and the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, organized jointly by the State Service for Protection, Development and Restoration of Cultural Heritage under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology of ANAS.
The main purpose of the training is the application of LiDAR technology in archaeological research, the documentation of kurgans and other archaeological monuments using modern digital methods, the preparation of high-precision three-dimensional models, and the mastery of modern methods in this direction. As part of the training program, participants conduct practical sessions on the rules of using LiDAR technology, conducting field measurements, collecting and processing acquired data, preparing digital terrain models, as well as three-dimensional documentation of archaeological objects. During the training, field research is carried out on various kurgans, the obtained results are analyzed on-site, and the possibilities of applying modern digital methods in archaeology are evaluated. The scientific and practical field training makes a significant contribution to expanding the exchange of experience between Azerbaijani and Turkish specialists, developing the application of modern digital technologies in the field of cultural heritage protection and documentation, as well as implementing future joint scientific research.
