Within the framework of the World Urban Forum 13 (WUF 13) held in the city of Baku, a group of visitors toured the “Keshikchidagh” State Historical and Cultural Reserve, which is managed by the State Service of Cultural Heritage Conservation, Development and Restoration under the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the visit, the participants first became closely acquainted with the archaeological monuments located in the Keshikchidagh Kurgan Valley in Jeyranchol, ancient settlements, and material cultural artifacts reflecting the early settlement history of the region. Subsequently, the guests inspected the “Peak named after Ilham Aliyev”, the caves situated in this direction, the frescoes preserved on their walls and ceilings, water wells, and food storehouses.
These historical and architectural monuments existing within the territory of the reserve are considered important scientific sources reflecting the lifestyle, economic activities of ancient people, and early urban planning traditions formed in harmony with the natural landscape. The residential complexes constructed on rock massifs, the water supply system, and the economic infrastructure confirm that Keshikchidagh was one of the significant residential, religious, and cultural centers in ancient times. The participants of the visit were provided with detailed information regarding the archaeological potential of the reserve, its architectural characteristics, the role of ancient residential spaces in studying the history of urbanization, as well as the significance it holds within the material and cultural heritage system of the Caucasus region.
