Goytapa ancient settlement (Neolithic village), one of the largest archeological monuments of Ganja-Gazakh region, is located in the middle reaches of the right bank of the Kura River, 10 km east of Tovuz.

This ancient Neolithic settlement is surrounded by other Neolithic hills (Hajiallahmanli, Huseyngulu, Gargalartepe, Toyratapa) and is considered one of the best monuments to this day. Goytapa is part of the eastern part of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains and covers an area of about 2 hectares. The results obtained on the basis of research show that the ancient settlement of Goytapa, in Azerbaijan and in the South Caucasus in general. It confirms that it is one of the early villages, reflecting the developed stage of the last Neolithic period of the VI millennium. Early agricultural and livestock farming in Azerbaijan, which dates back to the 6th millennium BC, combines all the main attributes of the Neolithic period, such as the use of primary pottery. A creative team of Azerbaijani and Japanese researchers has been researching more than 1,000 square meters in the Goytapa ancient settlement for six years. During the excavations, it was found that the cultural layer of the ancient settlement is 10 meters. Stratigraphic study of the monument revealed 13 architectural horizons of the settlement. That is, during the existence of the ancient settlement, it was subjected to the construction process 13 times by the residents of Goytapa.

The main feature of the ancient settlement of Goytapa is explained by the fact that most of the archeological materials found during the excavations are in good condition. It was noteworthy that bone marrow had a special place in the economic life of Goytapa residents.

Samples made of bone were mainly found in needles, pliers, hand sickles for planting, shovels, deer antler hammers, a large number of axes and a number of other products.
