\nThe incrustation work on this ceramic vessel-characterized by a rich ornamental arrangement covering the neck and shoulder areas-demonstrates exceptionally refined technical craftsmanship. The decoration consists primarily of motifs produced through point-punched and impressed techniques. The recessed surfaces of these motifs were filled (inlaid) with a special white, mineral-based substance, creating a strikingly contrasting composition that enhances the vessel\u2019s visual effect.
\nThis type of incrustation technique is generally based on the principle of filling pre-prepared grooves or impressions on the vessel\u2019s surface with a light-colored paste of inlay character. The material used for the filling typically consists of kaolinite-based clay, lime-rich mineral paste, or finely powdered soft silicate components. During the firing process, this substance stabilizes within the ornament channels, producing a durable, lustrous, and aesthetically expressive decorative finish.
\nThe context of the vessel\u2019s discovery is equally noteworthy. The artifact was found placed in the southern extremity of the burial chamber, positioned in the corner, and its interior was filled with bones belonging to small ruminant animals. This circumstance suggests that the vessel likely served not merely a utilitarian domestic purpose but possessed a ritual\u2013semantic function, presumably being used as a sacrificial or food-related offering.
\nFrom a terminological standpoint, the word incrustation derives from the Latin incrustatio, meaning \u201cto cover, overlay, or apply a crust\/layer.\u201d In archaeological scholarship, the term denotes a technique in which pre-carved or impressed recesses on objects made of metal, stone, or ceramics are filled with a contrasting material. In Bronze Age ceramic traditions, incrustation is regarded as part of a broader set of technological and artistic practices aimed not only at enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the vessel but also at symbolically emphasizing the social or cultural status of its owner.<\/p>\n
