The cultural heritage of our region

Dear viewers, today we will tell you about “Mount Goyazan visiting the skies”. Although his head didn’t reach the skies, the whole of Azerbaijan heard the name of this mountain, which “visited the skies”. This dome-shaped mountain in the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus is not the highest mountain in Gazakh, but it is a symbol of the region and looks majestic. There were many who tried to conquer it and try to reach the highest point.
This unique geological monument was formed on the site of a Chalk volcano. Its height is 250 meters above the ground.
It looks like a magnificent pillar buried in the plain, and it amazes those who see it. It is located 20 km from the center, 2 km to the left of the Jogaz River, in the area of Alpoud and Abbasbeyli villages. Due to its morphological features and beauty, it is the second mountain in the world after the crown of Mont Pele (on the island of Martunica, one of the West Indies). From ancient times the locals considered it the “center of the world”. The daghdaghan tree at its foot has become a sacred shrine. The Goyazen fortress is believed to be a watchtower of the IX-XII centuries. The summit is relatively flat, reminiscent of a large square. Remains of seven medieval castle walls and a rectangular building, as well as several caves were found here. Remains of a large and ancient settlement, a seven-pointed fortress can be seen at the bottom and at the foot. In its body there are cave-rooms, which are considered to be the abode of the first man, and storages for collecting rainwater.
